Community Cafe

Our community cafe in Church Street, Norton has a warm friendly atmosphere where everyone is welcome.
The cafe is run based on a social enterprise model and is run by our catering supervisor Joanne and is heavily supported by over 60 volunteers. We have two paid low level permitted work scheme workers which offers work experience to people on long-term benefits and a pathway back into work. It builds confidence and self-esteem by allowing people to apply their skills and receive a small payment, which then leads to empowerment and independence. Additionally it gives structure and purpose for people and allows them to access training to further extend their skills.
Volunteers are a very important part of the cafe and in turn, they benefit in a similar way, gaining self-confidence and the opportunity to build on their individual skills, gain training and be involved in the running of the cafe, providing input, shaping the future of the cafe.
Volunteers are the Heart of our organisation.
We provide home cooked meals, delicious cakes and puddings and a variety of drinks all at a very reasonable cost. We use locally sourced produce where possible and grow our own fruit and vegetables at our allotment.
What we offer
- Hot delicious homemade lunches £4.10
- Drinks
- Takeaways
- Buffets for special occasions on request, in or out.
Our service has built a strong base around the community cafe – it’s the hub of Next Steps and an innovative way of supporting users/members. Our new computer suite is available most days for free. We also have showers plus washing and drying facilities.
If you are interested in getting work experience or volunteering a few hours in the cafe please call our office on 01653 690854 and talk to Leisa.
