Family Fitness Fun day
Saturday 6th August 2011 – torrential rain forced a quick venue change and our Family Fitness Fun day was a great success.
The heavy rain meant we were unable to hold this event in the Castle Garden, which was a shame but the Milton Rooms proved to be a great venue – many thanks to Garry Cooper for arranging this on Saturday morning.
Norton Mayor & Next Steps Chair, Di Keal opened the free event which brought together fitness taster sessions and fun activities for families. There was something for everyone. Children could have their faces painted, try paper making, hear story-telling, take part in a skipping challenge and do a zumba session. For the adults, there was Tai Chi, kettlercising, pilates, yoga and a belly-dancing session.
The event was made possible by a grant awarded from the Malton Amenity Community Interest Company. Organiser Bridget Robinson-Clark said “Despite the last minute change of venue, the day was really successful, there was a great atmosphere in the Milton Rooms with so many different activities to try out. Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped out on the day, especially Marsha & Peter Turnbull from House Martins. It would be great to see it become an annual event bringing together all the local providers of fitness and health activities.”
The results of a children’s competition to design a bug hotel were announced. 1st prize went to Grace Clark from St Joseph’s School, Pickering. The winner of the skipping competition was Katie Robinson who did 77 skips in 30 seconds. Katie won a family ticket to Ryedale Folk Museum.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped out and gave their time.
