Next Steps is a passionate, innovative, and inclusive charity supporting people with mental health issues, loneliness/isolation, their families, carers, and friends across Ryedale. Due to our continued growth, we currently have a vacancy for the following:

To provide horticultural style teaching, learning sessions delivered by a support person in our allotments, teaching and learning to grow/cultivate/harvest produce with people with mental health issues, physical/ learning disabilities.

Duration: 20 hours per week, for 1 year Initially.

Salary: £11,960 per annum. – £11.50 per hour

Purpose:  To promote the learning and the benefits of growing fruit, vegetables and to raise awareness of the importance of organic home-grown fruit, vegetables and increase the number of volunteers, including those new to the activities.

To attend a planned course(planned by the successful candidate) where people will learn the importance of the health benefits of growing fruit and vegetables for both the mental and physical benefits.

This course will then lead onto the “Plate” side of the “Land to Plate” project. Learning how to cook with their produce, encouraging healthy eating, cooking on a budget, meal planning at our community café with our Kitchen supervisor. A gentle way of learning how to cook with their produce in a safe and friendly atmosphere.

There will be opportunities to make windowsill planters and raised bed planters at our Men in sheds project.

Each person will be allocated their own micro allotment to grow their choice of fruit and vegetables and have their own portfolio which will be given and filled out throughout their learning with the officer and the attendee.

Keen gardener and has in-depth understanding of growing fruit and vegetables.

Has empathy, listening skills and good communication.

Can design basic courses for attendees and can complete paperwork competently.

Enjoys working with people.
Wants to work in the community and make a difference.
